Organic Wheatgrass Powder

New Zealand Organic Wheatgrass Powder 450g, certified organic by the Soil Association

Wheatgrass is one of the most effective natural health supplements available, because it heals, alkalises, detoxifies and energises our bodies.  It is packed full of nutrients, including essential vitamins, minerals, enzymes, phytonutrients and all essential amino acids.  It also contains chlorophyll, which is a potent antioxidant and acts as a natural detoxifying agent, helping purify the blood and regenerate the liver.

SUGGESTED USE:
We recommend that you take one heaped teaspoon (3.5 grams) mixed with water or juice, once or twice a day.  It should ideally be taken mid-morning and/or mid-afternoon.

INGREDIENTS:
Certified organic wheatgrass powder with no artificial flavourings, binders, gluten, colourings or preservatives.  Rainforest Foods Wheatgrass powder has been certified organic by the Soil Association  (GB organic certification 5).  This wheatgrass is organically grown in Canterbury, New Zealand.

PROCESSING
We source our wheatgrass from an organic farm in Canterbury, New Zealand that is organically certified by Biogro NZ; a leading New Zealand organic certification company.  Biogro inspect the farm to ensure that the growing and processing conditions meet organic certification requirements.  The production process involves several steps.  The wheatgrass is harvested while the plant is still young, i.e. below 30 cm tall.  Within 1-6 hours of harvest, the wheatgrass is transported to an organically certified dehydrating company where the moisture content is reduced to approximately 4%.  This is accomplished through the use of hot air dryers.  The drying process takes between 20 and 25 minutes.  Samples are taken every hour and added to a daily batch which is tested for quality assurance.  Once the powder has been dried it is then transported to the primary mill, which reduces the particle size of the wheatgrass to approximately 150 - 200 microns.  This is then sent to the secondary mill for further milling to reduce the particle size to 50 microns.  Once the powder has been milled it is then packaged, awaiting transport to the UK.

ORGANIC CERTIFICATION
This wheatgrass is organically certified by Biogro in New Zealand and by the Soil Association in the UK.  This process involves several stages, all intended to ensure that consumers are guaranteed to receive an organic product.  Firstly, the farm is inspected annually to ensure it meets all the organic growing requirements.  In addition, all processors of the wheatgrass (e.g. the company that harvests the wheatgrass, the drying company, the mill and the packaging unit) need to be organically certified.  Once the product has been packed it is then inspected by Biogro NZ who issue an organic certificate of inspection.  This is a certification document which confirms that this wheatgrass is organic.  Once the wheatgrass arrives in the UK, the accompanying certificate of inspection is validated by the Port Health Authority who inspect the goods to see if they match what is on the certificate of inspection.
