Further Information

Chlorella (Chlorella vulgaris) is a blue-green algae, known to be one of the world’s most complete foods. It provides protein, carbohydrate and broad-spectrum vitamins, plus a wide range of minerals and gut flora-supporting enzymes. Chlorella is regarded as a substantial aid to detoxification. It fosters a healthy immune system, helps normalize blood sugar and allows the maintenance of healthy muscle and bone structures.

Chlorella is best-known as a popular basis to detoxification programmes. However, it is regarded increasingly as a highly useful general dietary supplement that provides broad support for a healthy diet. It is justifiably popular among people with active lifestyles. A significant component of Chlorella is the green pigment chlorophyll, which allows plants to convert light into energy via photosynthesis. Chlorophyll is high in magnesium, which is essential to humans for bone strength, proper muscle function and normalising blood pressure and flow.

Chlorella also features an element known as Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF), an immune system stimulator which bolsters our natural defences against disease and speeds the healing of damaged tissue. Chlorella provides easily-absorbed proteins, which assist us as we build, repair and maintain muscle tissue.

Chlorella packs a significant arsenal of vitamins. Its Vitamin A aids retinal health and is key for proper reproductive function in mammals, as well as forming and maintaining basic body structures. Vitamin C helps heal wounds and regulate blood flow, but is also highly antioxidant, aiding protection against and recovery from heart disease, cancer, arthritis and premature ageing. Vitamin E is also antioxidant, preventing disease and helping wounds heal, while Vitamin K plays a role in blood, heart and bone health. Vitamin B9 (folic acid) is also important here, as well as being essential for women before and during pregnancy.

Minerals are another key component of Chlorella. It contains calcium, which promotes healthy, strong bones and teeth, plus good circulatory and nerve health. Iron aids red blood cell production to prevent anaemia, phosphorous is required for general cellular function and potassium works with sodium to allow nervous impulses to flow and facilitate muscle reaction. Chlorella is alkalising, helping balance pH values in the body and counteract the acidifying effects of a modern diet. This is a multi-tasking superfood that deserves a central place in everybody’s diet. It does many jobs for many people, and it does them all well.

Production
Rainforest Foods Chlorella is grown organically on an island in the South China Sea. Laboratory-cultivated batches grow and multiply by photosynthesis in cultivation ponds containing filtered natural water. Once it has reached the required density the Chlorella is harvested. It is dried by a process known as spray evaporation, which retains virtually all the available nutritional value while rendering the product into powder form. Next, the tough cell wall is broken. While this is an aid to detoxification as it binds toxins to it as we digest the Chlorella, it also creates a barrier which reduces the amount of nutrients available from within the cell. The cell wall-breaking process does not damage the contents, but does make them bio-available.

The powder is compressed into tablets by a leading GMP (Good Marketing Practice)-registered pharmaceutical manufacturer. GMP registration requires rigorous inspection by the MHRA (Medicine and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency), the government agency responsible for ensuring that medicines and medical devices work and are safe. Regular GMP audits enforce optimum quality standards in the manufacture process. Rainforest Foods tablets do not contain bulking agents such as magnesium stearate, which can have an impact on taste (its potential to influence blood and immune system issues is currently under debate in the scientific community, also). Our tablets are 100% pure Chlorella powder, with nothing added and nothing taken away.

Organic Certification
Rainforest Foods Chlorella tablets are certified by the Soil Association, one of a handful of organic certification bodies in the UK. These are regulated in their turn by DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs). The role of the Soil Association is to ensure that all foods sold as organic are definably so. It does this by auditing every stage of the supply chain, through growth, export and processing. Soil Association certification – indicated by the Soil Association logo and the EU organic leaf symbol on our packaging – is a guarantee that our customers are purchasing an organic product. All organically-certified products must also carry a certification code on their packaging. For UK companies such as Rainforest Foods this has the format GB-ORG-XX, XX indicating the certifying body. If this is not present, a product is not organic. The Soil Association code on our products is GB-ORG-05.

Ingredients
Organic Chlorella powder.

Suggested Use
We recommend that you take 6 500mg tablets daily, all at once or 2-3 times during the day. The tablets should ideally be taken 30 minutes before meals and with water. We also recommend that you take a reduced dose (e.g. 3-4 tablets daily) during the first week to minimise detoxification symptoms. Store your Chlorella in a cool, dry place.
